Amazing! Thanks for the great review, Sumo-ling.

We LOVE building KingSumo for you. As you may have noticed, our family at AppSumo continues to use KingSumo for their own giveaways and list growth.

We now have 150,000+ total users using KingSumo — including some massive names like LEGO Brazil, Toys"R"Us, and the city of Memphis, TN. If you ever need any advice on how to use it, check out blog.kingsumo.com — we have some great case studies to help you unlock even further growth.

Thanks for buying KingSumo. You're da best.

Maybe good for groups, but terrible for paid ads

I have some issues with this tool, one of them is all the branding from Kingsumo. But is far from the worst thing, I have compiled a list of things, that one might want to consider before purchasing.

My issues:

- No control or edit options on the "forced" automated email when participants enter a competition.

- The only native email integration is: Sendfox??? - yes, no Convertkit, Getresponse etc.

- Lack of language options - This could be fixed if you had more control over the landingpage.

- Facebook ads penalize "Kingsumo competition landing page, which gives bad ads score and WAY lower reach.

- You can actually cheat the point system(entries).

- No roadmap to when things will be changed or improved.

It's not a big list, but for me at least it's some really important issues.

Hi, leonardo64!

Follow-up to a few points:

1) All Pro users (aka Sumo-lings who buy this web app version) have access to few email integrations, not just SendFox. And, all Pro users get access to a full Zapier web app to integrate with ANYTHING they want via Zapier. Winning!

2) We recently added translate ability to the web app version, so you can absolutely translate your giveaway now. Double winning!

We're constantly making improvements to KingSumo, and will continue doing so. Over the time that KingSumo has been on AppSumo, we've released dozens on major updates and fixes — all 100% free for all Sumo-lings.

More than ever, people are using giveaways because they can't afford large marketing spends anymore. AppSumo even launches giveaways monthly, and so does Noah Kagan personally, to get more subscribers. It's the best, least expensive marketing channel we know about... and we can't wait to keep seeing more people use it. 😀

Hi There - Do you have a RoadMap, it would be good to be able for you to control the announcement via a FB Group - after a challenge instead of the app doing it, takes away a bit from the promotion.

user-avatar

Good but lacking features.

I like the clean interface and simplicity of the opt-in page... But why on earth can't we customize the opt-in fields? Why can't we ask for a Name??? Seems like it would such a simple addition to the app. Also, I'm a little disappointed that we can't modify the rules or eligibility. I've emailed support asking how I can limit entries to US residents only ... but crickets, no answer. Overall, it's a good app but wish it had a little bit more ability to customize.

Hey, onyxchase! We always answer KingSumo support questions within 24-48 business hours (this is what we mention in our autoresponder), so my guess is it's still within that timeframe and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

We can also edit the rules for you, you just need to let our support team the new rules you want and we can overwrite them for you. We want to let people do this automatically, but there are some legal concerns (aka we don't want people blaming KingSumo and getting us sued for a giveaway they run!).

The first name field is available in the WordPress plugin version I mention in the pinned topic as well. If you have a WordPress site, and prefer that, just let us know and we can swap the purchase for you!

user-avatar

Thank you very much! I emailed support over a week ago but maybe my email landed in the spam folder or vice versa. Either way, I've just emailed again to switch to the Wordpress Plugin version. Much appreciated!

Absolutelly Brilliant! Our journey

Absolutely Brilliant!

I have heard many great testimonials on how giveaways can help growing brand awareness, grow email lists and get even more visitors to your website.

Quick insight in our journey (no experience in running giveaways whatsoever):

Initial numbers were +-

* Email list: 0 (starting with fresh and round "0")

* Facebook Likes: 27

* Twitter followers: 120

* YouTube subs: 19

// Tasks //

The main tasks were:

1) Grow brand awareness

2) Grow email list

Side tasks, with keeping in mind our customer avatar (people who look for best deals at lowest prices):

* Grow Twitter following - social proof is important when you reach out other brands

* Grow Facebook Likes - I plan to do Facebook live videos with cool online companies (first guest was already today - Adrian from tawk.to)

* Grow YouTube following - I plan to stream live videos into YouTube as well

// What else was needed? //

After buying KingSumo, also took 1 code of SendFox (decided to use software that are built to interact with each other).

Bought both on October 1st.

// What we did //

preparations stage) watched following KingSumo setup video at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm4IGZGfqRQ

1) Set up KindSumo deal: https://kingsumo.com/g/dbiivj/100-amazon-gift-card-hostmaria-october-giveaway

2) Set up SendFox account

3) Made an announcement on our website: https://www.hostmaria.com/index.php?rp=/announcements/25/100-Amazon-Gift-Card---October-2020---HostMaria-Giveaway-is-LIVE.html

4) Published the link to the giveaway at KingSumo.com (not our site) at several Facebook giveaway groups (7 or 8 of them)

5) Published the link to the giveaway on my FB profile (around 700 followers) and Latvian online business community page @ibf.lv of more than 5000 followers

6) Posted the link at r/Giveaways subreddit (62.2k members)

Less than 1 day later had 124 Contestants with 3217 Entries // scr: https://i.imgur.com/DiE4a2r.png

.. and a look into first contestants (emails blurred, of course): https://i.imgur.com/nFT8dg6.png

.. my setup? .. here you go: https://i.imgur.com/sR7DB3t.gif

// ---- slight problem ------ //

Originally I wanted to embed the giveaway in our Announcement and did so, but our CMS system (WHMCS) isn't configured yet that Facebook pulls in an image from post and posts it with the shared link. So, decided this month to stick with KingSumo link and just move on.

-----------

Started promoting a custom page on our website: https://www.hostmaria.com/giveaway.php

6 days later:

Contestants: 407

Entries: 14,903

scr: https://i.imgur.com/5gPDM95.png

Sendfox subscribers (active): 339 // scr: https://i.imgur.com/iYCFWX5.png

* Facebook Likes: 106

* Facebook follower: 114

* Twitter followers: 140

* YouTube subs: 46

New clients who can be linked to the giveaway? None. But, I am very optimistic about the future.

Wow! What an awesome review, hostmaria. Thanks so much.

Like you, we use KingSumo ourselves for our brands — AppSumo uses it every month — and we see similar results. In the early days of both AppSumo and our other sister brand Sumo.com, giveaways was our LARGEST marketing channel. It really does help propel brands forward, so I'm glad you saw success!

user-avatar

Nice, but no Wordpress plugin

It's not clear from the description (or at least it wasn't to me) that this offer does NOT include the Wordpress plugin. So customization is very limited. AppSumo currently offers Woorise which is a much more feature rich app. But the very limited thing it does, Kingsumo does well.

Thanks for feedback, james25!

You're right — the WordPress plugin and the web app (sold here) are different products. Like comparing Microsoft Office 2019 vs. Office 365.

In the pinned comment, for anyone who uses WordPress and REALLY wants the WordPress plugin... I give my email to email me for a 40% off code.

The thing to keep in mind is the web app version DOES have embed ability, so you can embed it on any site... including WordPress sites. The web app version has more flexibility, and we built it because people wanted to use KingSumo but didn't have WordPress. We're excited to bring KingSumo to the masses!

user-avatar

I have a question. For me now it is just impossible to use the web app as it does not translate and you mentioned there is no intention on translating it...

You say we could change to the wordpress plugin for the translation, but also sounded as the web version is much better. Is the wordpress plugin going to keep been updated and does it has a roadmap too? or will it be replaced eventually with the app web?

user-avatar

Hi, misp! We recently (about a month ago) added translation to the KingSumo web app. You can now translate the web app without issue, similar to how you can translate the WordPress plugin.

This feature was released for all current customers for FREE! And it's also available to all new customers.
