    Hello everyone,

It's an announcement that every entrepreneur dreads, a decision that's difficult to make.

After several months of struggling to get Spylead off the ground, we have to admit that we haven't succeeded.

In all transparency, here are the many reasons why the Spylead project didn't work:

    - Tech & Product Market Fit: We wanted to develop an email finder that covered several scraping sources, with the added feature of email verification. With so many features, we had to make ourselves vulnerable to bugs in the back-end, with a huge amount of work and a small team (cf.management). This caused a loss of confidence in the product, and slowed down its commercial development.

What's more, a lot of features, on paper a strong marketing argument, tend to lose visitors, who don't understand the real added value. The more features a product has, the less it performs, which brings us back to the famous quote "you're average at everything, great at nothing". Where visitor attention spans are limited to a few seconds, our product required several minutes of comprehension, and a free trial - It was a bad strategy.

    - Management: Our project was ambitious, but management and team composition were not up to scratch. The people in charge of the technical back-end side were not 100% dedicated to the project, and had other clients on the side, whereas a project of this magnitude, in view of the bugs, would have required a 100% dedicated team.

    - Financial aspect: Although the AppSumo launch was a success, the technical choices we made didn't allow us to scale the product, so our costs/number of users became exorbitant. This was not financially viable - it would have required a complete rework of the platform to optimize costs. And, as it turned out, we had too many bugs, and far too long a bug resolution time, which meant we couldn't welcome new MRR customers. All in all, Spylead's profit and loss came to -$27,000.

On a personal note: I'm truly sorry that the project is over and that some people have lost money, others less in the value of the scraped data.  After launching 2 successful products on AppSumo, I spent 2 years on Spylead, only for it to fail, and I'm very frustrated. But it's in failures that we learn, and this experience will help me in my next projects to make them a success.

If there are any points that I haven't made clear, I'm open to discussion to clarify them if necessary.
