Amazing product, creators, and community
I'll caveat this review with two points:
1. I'm not coming from a competitor in this space, so I can't really speak to how it stacks up against other tools.
2. I'm a developer, so the prospect of writing my own integration steps was actually a selling feature for me.
I purchased the tier 1 on a whim, truth be told. It sounded like a fun little concept, was a seemingly good value, and I thought I might be able to use it for something someday (it seemed similar to a modern IFTTT to me).
After purchasing, I jumped in and decided to skip the suggested demo flow and just start building my own. I was able to get a simple flow up and running in just a couple of minutes, complete with a simple schedule trigger, a random download, some javascript to parse a page, a decision tree, and then... my first issue struck.
I decided to join their Discord node to see if I could get some assistance. I was greeted by a friendly community, that offered to help even though they were merely a customer themselves. Eventually, a co-founder hopped in and engaged with me on a personal level, joked with me, was transparent about their investigation of the issue, even built additional functionality into the app on the fly to help diagnose. Ultimately, the issue wasn't even on their side, but at the very least, there's literally new verification code in the product to help diagnose future issues. All from a nonchalant Discord chat. Needless to say I was extremely impressed by their level of support.
In addition to top notch support, the app itself is quite powerful. Building flows is extremely fast, friendly, and flexible. One of the biggest issues I have with most sites or software that provide "no-code" selling features is that they really mean "no-option" shoe-horning; not Activepieces. These nodes have awesome depth and capability. That's probably because, being an open source project at its core, the workload for the (massive amount of) integrations they provide is distributed across the community. Or maybe it's because the founders and core team are awesome. Either way, it's a win for the customer.
Speaking of awesome, did I mention that these people, like the Blues Brothers, are on a mission from God? Activepieces is open source. You can go clone it right now and run it yourself. You can contribute to the project. They're not trying to lock you into some proprietary system that only they control. They're not trying to nickel and dime you for every little feature or developer-hour spent. They're just trying to build a great product, and they're doing it in a way that's good for their community and their customers.
At this point, I'm sure I will up my tier; just deciding between 2 and 3 now. I may come back and edit this review later to tell you more about how great Activepieces is, but for now, I'll just let this marinade. I'm going to go build some more flows for funsies.

May 16, 2024We optimized for flexibility from the first day. However, we learnt some new things that we need to add to make Activepieces more flexible for the no-code community, including sending custom requests to services if the action is not available.
We're working hard to keep up with the expectations and it's a great honor to us to get this review from you!
