The DRM protection is just a joke!

I’m a long-time AppSumo user and was looking for a secured online video hosting for my paid courses so I bought Adilo tier 5 right away when I found it yesterday, but soon I caught a deal-breaker so I can only give it 3 tacos for now. If the developer can find a fix or a better solution, I will add two tacos back and make it 5.

Adilo provides good features and smooth streaming quality. Unlimited storage is a huge plus for whom needs to store lots of videos. Most importantly it seems to work for Chinese audiences (unlike Publitio, which seems to be blocked in China). Customer support is not super fast but still responsive. It feels like a promising alternative solution to Vimeo and YouTube.

BUT…

Among all the features, the DRM protection is the true only reason that I bought it. I tried to create two projects in Adilo with only one of them having DRM activated. It worked as expected and prevented a browser extension to download the videos (I used Video DownloadHelper in Firefox to test). In the other project without the DRM, videos could be downloaded easily. So the DRM worked, but then I realised that the DRM license credit gets consumed not by the number of videos you have, but by VIEWS!

This is unbelievable and makes the DRM protection (as a promoted & highlighted feature) totally useless. Imagine you have 20 video courses and 200 students here. Even only half of them watching every video one time would eat up all your 1,500 DRM licenses in a very short time. How are you going to protect your digital assets then?

I don’t know how DRM works or if there is any other DRM solution, but unless they provide unlimited DRM licenses, or implement another permanent DRM solution to your videos, the current DRM protection is just a joke (yes you can protect all your video assets, but for only ONE DAY!?)

I really like all the other features Adilo provides but the DRM is the very reason many people purchased the LTD. It’s the only known method that really protects your video to an extent.

Customer support told me that they are working on adding DRM as an add-on. I don’t know what that means but I hope it will be a fix to the current solution.
