Adobe Audition is a professional audio workstation where you can edit, mix, record, and restore audio as well as design sound effects.

A unique feature of Adobe Audition is the ability to record on multiple tracks with separate microphones. Multi-track recording offers a lot of flexibility and control as you can set gain levels for each track to give each individual its own EQ in post-production.

While editing, you can apply effects to the entire track or to individual clips. Effects range from compression and EQ to echo and big and wide. Preview the changes before you apply and still have the option to toggle effects on and off without making permanent changes.

With Adobe Audition, you also get access to over 12,000 free, royalty-free and fully uncompressed sound effects in their library. Sound effects range from laughing, whistling, and popping to classic arcade and firearm sound effects.

In addition to the multi-track work view, you can also use the waveform view to make edits to your audio. For instance, you might use the Waveform editor to adjust the audio amplitude.

Adobe’s machine learning tool, Adobe Sensei, helps streamline the audio editing process by automatically performing adjustments that were once tedious manual tasks. For instance, you can use it to automatically edit the music to the length you want it or dynamically adjust the volume of music or dialogue.

Adobe Audition offers Adaptive Noise Reduction, which you can run as a track effect. This cleans up vocal tracks by removing unwanted background noise giving you a clean version of the track.

Sometimes removing background noise is not enough. If an isolated sound occurs when someone is talking on a podcast (like a dog barking or a phone notification), you can’t just cut it out. Instead, use Spectral Analysis to look at the audio in frequency form, isolate the unwanted sound, and remove it.
