I am still learning the endless capabilities of Alter, but the amount of time it has saved me in the last week alone is crazy. It is one of those rare apps that you wonder how you ever worked without it. The way it interacts directly with my Mac it's like I am working in the future! This is probably my favourite purchase on AppSumo ever, and every day I find something new I can use it for.

Initially, I found the app quite annoying. There were so many windows popping up everywhere, and the AI kept trying to record my screen when I went to YouTube. Plus, most of the shortcuts conflicted with those I use in Ableton Live.

However, I’ve been using it more and more, fine-tuning the options I need and want. I’ve actually found the AI to be one of the most powerful and useful I’ve used in a while. Tasks I give it are done at almost 100% accuracy every time.

A few things I’d change:

1. When I give the AI a directory to work with, it goes through and asks for permissions for every subfolder and file. It’s a lot, and I’m not sure if this is a setting I need to adjust.
2. Workspaces should be in a buried directory, perhaps in the Documents or Username folder.

Other than that, I highly recommend this purchase.

Alter is what Alice could have been if they made it easier to use.

I had fun using the app.

The only issues / requests that I have:
We need to be able to add more than one account to an app. For example, it is great that Gmail is a natively integrated app, but you can only add one Gmail account (as far as I can tell). The other alternative is to aggregate all your accounts in Apple Mail. TBH, I do not use Apple Mail and would like to keep it that way. However, I could make an exception.

Please allow access to some features via Telegram or another interface that supports mobile use.

5 Tacos. This tool is something else.

The voice to command feature completely changed how I work on my Mac. I literally just speak and Alter does the rest. No more typing prompts or switching between apps. Just say it and it happens.

What really blew my mind is scraping website info and extracting data using just voice actions. I pointed it at a page spoke my intent and got structured results instantly. That alone saved me hours of manual copy and paste.

BYOK is included so you can plug in your own API keys and use whatever model you want. No lock in. Your keys your models your workflow. And with Fal MCP integration you can generate images right from Alter without opening another tool. It just works.

Unlimited meeting transcription is another big one. Record transcribe and get summaries with action items all locally on your Mac. No bots no third party cloud services eating up your data.

Alter has so much potential it is honestly hard to describe in one review. Every time I use it I discover something new it can do. The integration with apps I already use the context awareness of what is on my screen and the speed of execution make it feel like a true copilot not just another AI chatbot.

I cannot list all the positive things here because there are simply too many. The team is responsive the product keeps improving and the value for what you pay is insane.

Do not just take my word for it. Try it yourself. You will understand why people are raving about this one.

I've always wanted to chat with my mac, this is the closest thing and it can upload youtube videos too! lol

Wanted to leave a review earlier but didn't know what to say as it can do most of the stuff i throw at chatgpt, claude and perplexity. It sometimes throws an error and that is because the input total size has reached it limit.... just make a new chat and it start over.

The biggest advantage I would say is the optimized credit usage, it not like claude that will eat up all tokens. Is it perfect? not yet.. but it gets the work done faster. It it seems to be getting better the more i use it.

I took the bet that this would be one of those hidden gems, and i think i made the right choice. support is very responsive and I do hope that this will prosper as it is a good tool to have. I just wish it would work on my phone.

It was a struggle at the start but setting up a call with the team will be a huge help seeing what alter can do. I've gradually upgraded and will go for top tier before this goes away.
