Q: Really disapointed!

Received an email today about the fact that Amelia rose their prices on Envato so that people stops buying from it and buy from their site instead... But they keep it open for us, so that we can still have access to it...

And what about if they decide to close their account in x years??

They also offer us 70% off to have 12 months of support instead of the 6 months provided on Envato... WHAT?!? There was never any mention that we only had 6 months of support...! And we need to pay x amount to have an extra 6 months!

Though the product is good, I was on the fence to refund, because small businesses like hair dressers and all don't want to pay for that, and bigger ones like chiropractors and layers use a bigger, more professional one... Now, that pushes me on the other side of the fence...!

Hello there sumo-ling.

We sincerely apologize for missing the chance to respond to this question. As you can see, we're still very present, and we have no intentions of closing our account anywhere.

If you purchased the deal here, on AppSumo, you received a lifetime license which includes lifetime support - there are no limitations here.

As for your concerns about Envato, we'd like to post a (not so short, sorry) explanation here:

The 6 months of included support on Envato - that's how every product on Envato is sold - you can take a look at their support policy here: https://codecanyon.net/page/item_support_policy - it's always been this, and we have no effect on that. The only thing we did is increase the price, so people would reach out and purchase the plugin on our website. The main reason for our decision, however, is not the wish to try to ‘rob off’ the existing or new customers.

Our products require a growing amount of effort to maintain. We do our best to resolve each customer’s issues (around 130 tickets every day). In parallel, we are developing new products and new features for our products. So that takes a growing amount of investments to be able to keep on at this pace without sacrificing quality on any of the fronts.

Envato, on the other side of things, made a lot of very disappointing decisions which we will not cover in detail here. They are not doing anything to help authors with items promotion, 99% of the marketing and advertising activities are financed by us (another big cut of our revenue, to make sure the new customers keep coming). Their fees sum up to almost 50% of the item price for exclusive authors. And the fact that the licenses are lifetime (no more than 10% renew support). It is very hard to maintain and scale the software development in an economically viable way under these terms.

Envato was actually a very expensive and not so helpful middleman at this point. When we just started it was a great place, and we are very grateful for the starting opportunity it gave us, but now the products and the business itself “overgrown” the marketplace model.

We considered disabling our account completely, but in this case, our existing customers would not be able to access future updates (which we provided as a lifetime at the time of their purchase) and would be very upset. So we set a restrictive high price instead. We understand that many new potential customers are upset, but the alternatives would be even worse.

We will not close our Envato account, so as long as our company exists, you'll still have access to all upcoming updates.

Anyway, as a sumo-ling, you're entitled to lifetime updates and lifetime support, so Envato's policy doesn't affect you in any way.

Best regards!
