My initial excitement about this freebie quickly died down when I realized how limited it is. But I chose to go forwards with a positive attitude, forgetting all the excluded features and look at it as just a freebie changelog. Unfortunately even then I was still underwhelmed by the product.

The lack of customization is a problem. Not even the brand color of the widget is customizable, let alone the font, the layout or the included items.

If I'm using this as a simple changelog (which is all the deal allows) I don't want my users to see a 'Suggest Idea' button. That doesn't make any sense on a changelog. I don't want them to see the 'Leave a comment..' box either.

I'd also like to exlcude the share/subscribe/avatar buttons - far too much noise for the limited space of each entry.

The video feature is nice but support for other video hosts would be better, especially Swarmify.

On the backend I think things need a lot of work. The navigation and organization is confusing and haphazard. The founder says they put a ton of work into the onboarding tours and videos, and I can see that, but I wonder if he ever stopped to wonder WHY they had to do so much work here. The product is unintuitive, especially with the limitations imposed by the freebie deal.

So all in all this feels like a very weak offering. Much better to do a full-access LTD at the regular $49 and have many more happy customers along with a bundle of cash. It's the old bait-and-switch of "here's a freebie but it's pretty useless unless you upgrade!".

Even as a freebie changelog I think I'd still prefer to use Headway or one of the other changelog apps out there with free plans - Noticeable.io, Beamer, Changes.blue, ProductFeed - there's no shortage of choice.
