Promising, but don't think it's there quite yet
I've tried a few App Builders here from Appsumo. AppHive can do many things, but the learning curve can be troublesome for some people.
I do have some potentially complex apps that I want to tackle, and AppHive might be able to do them... with some learning on my part. However, for my testing, I just wanted to attempt to make an app for a website. Something simple, no database or anything excessive.
Yes, you can make a super simple app for a website with the Web View module and that be the end of it. But then I thought about adding a splash screen. My initial thought would have been there's a template for that. I find one in there (note: make sure you click on the See More button). But the splash screen doesn't appear to have any setting to make it a splash page. Meaning, a splash page typically will be visible for a certain amount of time and then go to another page.
So, I start to mess with the Icon Function settings (the fX button) and set an onload item. Logically I would think that adding a Timeout followed by a Replace screen would do the trick. But it did not.
There is a Splash screen and loading animation setting in the App Settings itself. However, using the preview app on my device doesn't show the splash screen so I don't know if it works or not.
That's part of the learning curve and growing pains.
Another issue I ran into was during the initial setup, AppHive created a project with a random name. Which used one of my AppSumo slots. I don't see a way to either rename it, nor delete it. I only see a transfer option.
But for those looking for a way to delegate your projects, I suggest that you keep one project for your website apps since they don't need the database and you can then use the remaining projects for your complicated apps.
AppHive also mentions connecting with other applications. And yes there are 20+ apps you can connect to, however, outside of Paypal and Stripe, most of the other ones won't be of use. Unless you happen to be or work from, Central or South America. My suggestion to the AppHive folks is that you greatly expand the list of applications you can connect with. By submitting your platform to AppSumo you're opening it up to the world and should have connections to other services that are used in other regions.
In summary, AppHive can certainly make simple web apps, and it does appear to have the ability for making far more complex apps. However, it will certainly take a bit of learning to accomplish something more complex.
Promising, and may be worth the risk. But only time will tell.

May 9, 2024Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I appreciate it. It's a pleasure that you're on board, and if there's any support we can offer you along the way, please let me know.
You mentioned a few points we could work on for the onboarding process. I agree; It may appear difficult for simple apps, but as you scale up, it's worth making them on Apphive.
We'll always be adding new integrations, and we're always adding new features too. So please don't hesitate to ask for features you'd like to see in the future. You can use our feedback website on feedback.apphive.io
