Q: What difference is using AppMySite for an app than accessing the mobile version of the site?

How do you handle Custom fields, Custom posts, and Query loops/archives?

How do you handle things like Buddypress Profiles & x-profile fields?

I can't seem to find documentation about how you actually create the app. I don't care about the source code, I just want to understand how it's pulling the content. Is it access the database? Or generating html from the site, or what?

How about custom pages with a builder? Is it possible for site owners to choose pages they want to keep as the mobile version (for super stylized pages)?

How does the app handle logins? Is it possible to force people to login before using the app?

I can't find any active demo apps to test?

A: Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out.

1. On how AppMySite works, relevant documentation, and related questions

At present, we provide three main solutions.

- Deep WordPress integration
- Deep WooCommerce integration
- Web-to-app support

In the first two solutions (WordPress & WooCommerce), we allow customers to connect their WordPress website and app. Once connectivity is established, your website’s posts, pages, products, custom post types & taxonomies (created via third-party plugins) are synced to a native app interface. You can design and configure the native interface using the features we offer on our platform.

We use official WordPress and WooCommerce REST APIs to populate your website’s content in the app. For documentation on connecting your WordPress website and app, you can visit the following link:
https://www.appmysite.com/support/category/connectivity/

You can also get an overview of the process from this video Sam Beckman created on building an app via our platform: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzngP_QWgKA

In the video, Sam connects a WooCommerce website to an app, and as you will be able to see, all the site’s products and details are synced to a native app interface.

You can also go through our knowledge base to get documentation on building a mobile app with AppMySite: https://www.appmysite.com/support/

Web-to-app support simply renders your mobile site in the app. All your site’s pages will appear in webviews, and you can add further native elements like a bottom bar to improve accessibility within the app.

2. On choosing to show mobile version for some pages

You will be able to find settings to display your website’s pages in webviews. It will ensure you can render your mobile site pages in the app. This option is made available if you choose to establish a deep WordPress/WooCommerce integration.

3. On handling custom fields, custom posts, and query loops/archives

If you’re using a plugin to display custom fields, we’re not sure if it would be completely compatible with our platform. You can choose to show certain pages in webview, which will render your mobile pages in the app. This way, you can make custom fields work in the app. We would suggest you sign up for a free account to see if you’re able to display custom fields on some pages.

Regarding custom post types, AppMySite provides support for any custom post type or taxonomy created via third-party plugins. Visit the page to learn more: https://www.appmysite.com/support/where-can-i-show-custom-post-types-and-taxonomies-in-my-app/

Regarding query loops & archives, AppMySite automatically syncs all your website’s posts, pages, products, and more to the app. You can view posts and products category-wise within the app. Also, in-built sections within the app like sale products, recent posts, cart products, etc make sure that your app users are able to discover content from different relevant sections that are populated automatically.

4. On user login within the app

AppMySite is integrated with the official WordPress Users module. Any user who signs up to your website via the official WordPress Users module will also be able to sign in to your app using the same credentials.

Similarly, app users will also be able to sign in to your website. There are settings within our platform that enable you to make user login mandatory within the app.

5. On demo apps

Here are links to our Android and iOS demo apps:

Bravo on an awesome response! Thank you for a thorough point-by-point response. It looks like things are shifting, and in a good direction! This is encouraging.

One more query - is it either wordpress or wooCommerce? Or can a site that has both CPT and WooCommerce use one app? I'm not sure I understand why they're seperate, if Woo is technically a CPT? Is it the checkout option?

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback.

Coming to your query, it is not either WordPress or WooCommerce. A website can have Woo products, CPTs, posts, and pages, and all of them will be synced to the app regardless. Even if you have a WooCommerce store, you can sync your website’s posts, CPTs, pages, post categories, etc with the app as well.

We distinguish between the two as WooCommerce is a popular ecommerce solution and we want to make it easy for store owners to find a no-code app development solution.

When you connect your website and app, all the website’s posts, pages, and other content will be synced with the app’s native interface. In case you have WooCommerce, your products and their respective details will also be synced to the app.

Similarly, your custom post types and taxonomies will be reflected in the app as well.
