BackupGuard WordPress Plugin

Product details

Q: In the last 24 hours, I have purchased the "Platinum Plan" and have tested the plugin on a few sites.

Based on my testing, this deal is worth the investment but the plugin still needs a lot of work in order to compete with the likes of SnapshotPro, BackupBuddy, UpdraftPlus. Features I'd like to see are:

1. Full backups should ideally include all of the WordPress folders/files in the public directory and not just those in "wp-content". This is useful for when an entire site needs to be restored (server crash, accidental delete, etc.) and also if there are custom values in the wp-config.php file.

A "wp-content" only backup should be an option but it should not be labeled as a "Full backup" as this is a bit misleading in my opinion.

2. Options for backup retention should be set on a scheduled backup basis. For example; I would like to retain 1 most recent copy of a full backup on the server whilst retaining 3 most recent database only backups.

2.1. Options for cloud backup retention. This should also be set on per scheduled backup basis.

3. The option to create backups in .zip or .gzip format and not only in your proprietary .sgbp format.

Whilst I have seen you address the concerns of vendor locking in recent questions and stating that your format is superior to .zip in some instances, giving users the choice to create backups in a more universal and accessible format would be ideal. I have played around with your SGBP Extractor and it does not seem to work for all files, especially large ones.

I would propose still offering the .sgbp format for compatibility and possible space savings but I'm sure most users will sacrifice a few MB to have a file in an accessible format and having the peace of mind that if you go out of business (hopefully not) that they can still easily access the files in their backups.

4. Allowing websites to be linked via sub-accounts or API keys (which are hidden to users upon verification). I'm certain that a lot of your clients on the Platinum plans are agencies and do not want clients to have access to their account information (or registered name).

5. Allowing migrations and complete restorations to be completed without having to install a fresh instance of WordPress. A solution similar to the importbuddy.php (BackupBuddy) would be ideal.

Additionally, I would like to confirm if the database backup is the file located within the wp-contents/uploads/backup-guard folder?

Please note that I have brought my feature requests up here as I cannot find any instructions for how to submit them to your roadmap.

Kind regards

A: Hello Samuel!
I am Susie from BackupGuard.

Thank you for the suggestions. It was the correct thing to bring them here since only we can add features to the Roadmap based on our customers' feedback.

So, let me go over the suggestions.

1. This is actually something connected with the WordPress restrictions regarding the backup plugins. Not only our but most of backup plugins are allowed to backup the wp-content only.

2. A pretty nice idea. We will be looking to refine this feature in the future.

2.1. Noted this one as well.

3. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on .zip and .sgbp. This point has been noted as well.

4. Regarding the licensing via API keys: we have head multiple wishes like this and that's why added it to Roadmap here: https://trello.com/b/8tFuNU2s/backupguard-roadmap Please, upvote for it to increase the chance of a sooner implementation.

5. Added this one to wishlist as well.

And last but not least, yes, the DB backup is located in the same folder.

Let me know if I have addressed all points or there is anything additionally you would like to get addressed.

I quite disagree. In plugins like Backup Buddy, you can do a complete backup including the wp system files. This will be a useful feature for complete site migration as Full Site Backup and more meaningful.
