BackupGuard and Backup Security Guard Thoughts
Giving the plugins 3 tacos, which in my view is very very good.
I have tested the BackupGuard plugin on multiple live sites and it works great, it's missing some key featured but hopefully in the future they will be added.
PROS
- It's simple to use
- It backs up locally and to cloud drives such as Google Drive which is great.
- You can schedule backups and it works good.
- From what I have tested (around 10 live sites) the backups are good.
CONS
- Interface is a little slow and buggy, nothing major.
- No incremental backups.
- No backups before wp core, theme or plugin updates.
- I don't understand the difference between importing /restoring and the MIGRATION button (maybe it's just me)
- Documentation needs a lot of work.
- There is no support ticket system.
Regarding BackupGuard SECURITY plugin
I give it two tacos, for the lack of reporting and a dashboard, I don't really know if this plugin is working on my sites, the is no dashboard telling me the status of my website.
It urgently needs some kind of dashboard to let the user know if the site has received attacks or if there are infected files, malware... etc.
I have scanned 3 sites and the only thing that I see is an exclamation icon, the download report icon doesn't work so I need to go into cPanel and fetch the log, which is also kind of useless because it only tells you a list of files that have been scanned,

May 9, 2024Hello dear Sumo-ling!
I am Susie.
Thank you for testing our plugins and sharing your experience.
I won't refer to pros - will just say that each point is indeed true. :)
As for the cons:
- Interface is a little slow and buggy, nothing major. - Could you clarify what bugs you noticed?
- No incremental backups. - It's been added to the Roadmap. Many Sumo-lings have requested the same thing. :)
- No backups before wp core, theme or plugin updates. - It's been added to wishlist and may be considered for implementation.
- I don't understand the difference between importing /restoring and the MIGRATION button (maybe it's just me) - Currently the Migrate button does the same thing as the Backup button. It will be changed in the future though.
- Documentation needs a lot of work. - Yes, it does. It's currently a work in progress.
- There is no support ticket system. - We do have Live Chat and email support. You can contact us at support@backup-guard.com or else simply shoot a message via Live Chat via our website.
As for the Security plugin: It's a fairly new product and many changes/enhancements will be done on it in the future. Reporting, for one, will become so much better!
We used to have an issue downloading the scanner report but it has been fixed with one of the updates. Could you, please, update the Security plugin and let me know whether you were able to download the log file?
Also, it scans the website and gives you warnings. It's possible no warnings were found on the website and thus the log didn't include any.
In any case, you can send the log for us to check and provide you with a more detailed answer.
Would appreciate getting back an answer from you.
