Shutting down

Tom and his motly crew at Bcast are shutting down. A few years ago, they tried to reneg on the deal they made on Appsumo. Since then, I never trusted their business sense nor their ability to last, so I abandoned their platform. They just coasted after that, putting no energy into their business. No emails from them in years and no advertising that I ever saw. A good lesson is that once a business shows themselves to b shady, like Bcast, run...

Another short life - bCast Is Shutting Down

Received Email 7-25-24

"bCast Is Shutting Down
Hey bCaster,

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that the bCast platform will be shutting down.

We have had an awesome run over the past 4 years but it simply has not been possible to sustain the amount of usage with the revenue generated.

Unfortunately, we have not been able to generate enough monthly recurring revenue to keep up with ongoing costs.

We are currently working on finding deals with other podcast hosts to make this transition a little easier for you hopefully.

These will be shared shortly.

To be clear, bCast will no longer serve your podcast as of the 30th of August 2024, so you will need to import your show to a new podcast host, and then redirect your bCast RSS feed to the new RSS feed.

This can be done by going to the "Settings" page for your show, then "Advanced Settings", then scrolling down to "Moving Your Podcast from bCast".

This redirect functionality will remain after the platform has been taken down.

We want to thank you for all your support over the years, and of course, if you have any questions, please reply to this email.

Thanks
The bCast Team"

A Deeply Disappointing Experience with bCast

Rating: ⭐

I rarely leave reviews and never a bad one, but my experience with bCast has compelled me to do so, hoping it might save others from experiencing the same disappointment and frustration or just staying away from them full stop.

I purchased the lifetime deal for bCast via AppSumo with the assurance that it was exactly that – a lifetime deal. The concept was promising: a platform created by marketers, for marketers, a place to host podcasts with various innovative features that other platforms seemed to be lacking.

Initially, I was content with the service. It appeared that bCast was continuously improving its features and user interface, and was even responsive to user suggestions. As a customer, it was exciting to be part of a platform that seemed to be growing and evolving.

However, this sense of satisfaction and excitement quickly turned sour when, out of the blue, bCast decided to renege on their lifetime deal promise. Users, including myself, were informed that we had to start paying regular subscription fees or risk losing our podcast feeds. This abrupt change was not just disconcerting but a blatant breach of the deal we had agreed upon at purchase.

It's disappointing to see a platform that promised so much handle its customers so poorly.

Sadly, bCast has fallen well below expectations. It's difficult to trust a company that so easily backs out of its promises and fails to support its customers. I strongly urge potential buyers or users to stay away and to think twice before investing money or time in a product or service from this company.

At this point, AppSumo never intervened to help us get the service we were promised or a refund for the broken agreement. In the meantime, I hope my review serves as a warning for potential customers considering using bCast.

Just an excellent podcast hosting platform

I've been a bCast customer for almost a year after purchasing an Appsumo LTD, and it's a great platform to host a podcast. The features are brilliant. The support, on the few occasions I've needed it to import a podcast feed and get my account and show set up, was easy.

Yes, they recently almost ceased the lifetime deal thing. They made a bad decision. We were all very angry and scathing. I certainly was, and I let them know it. But they heard the feedback, reversed the decision, and opened up communication with the bCast user community. That takes character on the part of the founders. Entrepreneurship is hard. Doing it in the public eye like this is even harder.

To everyone who is STILL going hard on the bCast team even now that they're honoring LTD holders, ask yourselves if you've ever made a mistake in your business? And did you then have the character to take the public beating without making any excuses?

Good luck to Tom and the bCast team. I look forward to being a bCast customer long into the future and seeing the company, the platform, and the community grow into one of the best podcast hosting platforms available. I think it already is, so the future for bCast looks exciting.

Is this bait and switch??

Appsumo/bcast,

As you already know Bcast has declined to offer their lifetime plan to all sumolings even though they are still an active business. This is not acceptable. If they are pulling the lifetime only to offer a monthly discount we should all have our purchases refunded. They should have voluntarily offered a refund if we are going to be subscribing customers and the discount they offered is the least they can do to try to uphold their name.
How are you monitoring these startup companies in this business of bait and switch or fraud in the future. I purchased 5 codes totalling $395. This is not a small purchase. A two week notice to either pay or find another hosting platform is unprofessional and bad service all around. I think most entrepreneurs would not feel as let down if we are refunded the startup fees we contributed to and would still support them with their discounted hosting price offer. If this is their practice I can see them going out of business very soon and we are all still stuck finding another hosting platform.
It's a shame because I assumed I would always use their platform and was planning to refer them to other Podcasters. Now I can not honestly recommend them as I don't know what else they have planned in good faith.
Please advise how bcast/appsumo plans to make this right.
