It saddens me to post this but this is a cautionary tale for all other startups who offer a service on Appsumo this is nothing short of Fraud. Below is the support letter I just sent to the Appsumo team after an insane email from one of the Bcast founders this morning…

“I purchased three codes of Bcast when offered several months ago. Sadly, they have decided to eliminate the lifetime offer for all purchased App Sumo Lifetime users and keep going with not as much as a refund. They did not expect us to use their service as often as they offered and sent an email saying sorry but not sorry enough to give you a refund and would you mind paying a monthly fee now?

I personally did not even have a chance to start one podcast before the elimination of my paid for lifetime deal and now they are upselling their new monthly “legendary” service to the same users they deceived! I understand not all startups make it, but they are operating perfectly fine and adding features for paid monthly users. Essentially taking Sumolings money and running.

Ultimately the early Appsumo adopters for Bcast are getting nothing because Bcast didn’t expect us to use their service.

I respectfully requested a refund for all three codes and caution anyone who considers working with this company in any way.

This is an important note for all bCast lifetime users.

…it saddens me to say that in order to keep up this level of product evolution, we will need to break a promise.

A promise we made to all lifetime deal customers.

This is something we have tried everything we possibly could to avoid… but we simply can’t. In short, the lifetime deals we offered turned out to be a little too generous. Moving thousands of large .mp3 files around the internet costs money, more money than we forecasted. In short: you guys are starting more podcasts and getting more downloads than we predicted ;)

And this is also costing more money than we’re currently making. And if we continue like this, we would have to shut the business down.

So it’s with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that at the end of December, all bCast lifetime accounts will expire.
