I just tried out BetterDocs and have been going through the process of creating a knowledge base. Even though it is a version 1, it did not feel like a new plugin. It is surprisingly full featured and easy to use. BetterDocs is created by the same team that makes other WordPress plugins, such as Essential Addons for Elementor.

I'm sure you are familiar with the knowledge base areas that software and service companies have. I think they are made with Zen Desk or Help Scout. That is the kind of KB you can create for your own website with BetterDocs. However, you have a lot of layout and styling options and you can style the pages in the WordPress Customizer. I doubt you have this kind of control with those hosted options.

BetterDocs is built around creating categories for your help articles. You know the "All Pages" view in the WordPress admin? They have provided another view where you can drag and drop the articles into categories and order their display. Very easy. No more going into Quick Edit to change the category.

Your KB articles are WordPress posts, so you can use Gutenberg or Elementor to add any type of content you need.

A big feature is you can add a "chat bubble" type of icon to your site where people can search for help from whatever page they are on. You can let them send an email if they still need help.
