Too Many Bugs and Limitations
I was really excited by BigVu's premise, as I'm very much a writer for content creation, but a slick, easy teleprompter would make creating video so much easier for me. I'm taking steps to create courses in addition to my Pinterest and quiz services, so I planned to use BigVu for training videos where I didn't need screen recording. I bought 2 codes for the organization and potentially working with others in the future.
Unfortunately, my experience trying to use BigVu today was far from ideal. I started with a 2500-word workbook as my script, as I thought a video version would be helpful. I copied the text into a new script, made some edits to reflect the medium, and hit save. BigVu had an error, didn't save, and all my edits were lost, so I had to start from scratch.
I got set up to record on my Android phone, and had a couple false starts. As another review mentioned, to adjust some settings (like the words per minute, which I had to change several times to get the right flow) it switches to portrait mode - very awkward when recording in landscape!
I realized my script was a bit unwieldy, so I split it in two and recorded the two parts - one 7 minutes, one 12 minutes. Only guess what? I can't upload 12 minute videos on Android! You'd think they'd have some sort of warning in the app since they estimated by the script length that it would be far too long. But nope.
After a bit of a wait to hear from customer service, they told me that the workaround I'd come up with (trimming the clip twice and removing half of it each time) would work, as the original take would remain so I could do the second trim. I did so, and after a long wait and several failed uploads (even under 9 minutes - think I had to keep the app open while I waited), I had all three clips in the cloud to edit on desktop. A bit more poking around (the FAQs are out of date) and I'd managed to get the clips into Composer to merge them.
The Composer is absolute crap. It hides parts of the titles, so I had to click into info and guess to know which order the clips were in. Playing the clips to figure that out was a nightmare as it was unclear which one was playing, they'd start late, play over each other, just a mess. The default setting for each clip was 5 seconds (why?), and when I went to extend each clip to their full 6ish minutes, I couldn't. Because you can only put together TWO MINUTE clips! I reached out to customer service (faster response this time) and they said that's by design. What?!? They suggested I duplicate the clips and select 2 minute segments of each one to get the full video. Yeah, no, that's going to look/sound awful if the segments are even a fraction of a second off. (They've escalated the matter, if there's a timely fix, I'll modify this review.)
I also don't know if I have to do all of the captions/editing on each clip or if I will be able to do so with the merged video. I'm guessing the former, another hassle.
