Q: What type of affect does this have on page speed and page speed tool metrics?
Can you give a real life example of a site without a bot and the score it gets with Google Pagespeed Insights and GTMetrix, and the same site with a bot turned on?

TLDR: it won't block the page and should not affect negatively to the Page Perfomance score.
The BotStar JS script file will download some other JS sources and will take about 400ms, however it runs in the background and does not block the page rendering.
Once the sources are fully loading, it will take another 300ms to execute the JS and this part will only run once the page is fully rendered.
It takes some unnoticeable and almost instaneous to update the page's DOM.
Have a look at this website, it's running BotStar script. Below are the performance reports for your reference.
