Shockingly impressive / Kind of confused -> But IDC
I don't often write long reviews, I'm more of a complain about the structure of the deal in the Questions section type of guy. I didn't take the time to write this to get more views on my sub-par YouTube video either. I wrote this because I actually hope the folks from Botstar will read this (as well as everyone elses) and use the feedback to improve an already pretty awesome product.
I didn't want to give them a chance initially. Between the JVZoo thing and the laundry list of spelling + grammatical errors both on their own site and in every single bot template. It just seemed off.
After seeing these guys restructured their deal based on feedback, I started digging a little deeper into what Botstar can do. I decided to give it a try, and stacked enough codes to Whitelabel it. Botstar is super interesting for those looking for a realllly smart chatbot builder with a cool UX and large capacity for integration through both Zapier and Integromat.
Pretty cool. HOWEVER, there were some things I didn't love:
1. The Whitelabel feature doesn't really make tangible sense (yet) - I don't really understand the purpose of having this as an option if you aren't able to limit the sessions per user or accept in-platform payments from clients or future users you acquire. There's no landing or registration page for you to customize, just a plain login page with the logo you upload.. but that's it. To say you could become a chatbot seller with this just wouldn't be practical at this point unless you were able to do all of that through a third party.
2. They chose the "Quantity over Quality" strategy with their templates - Yes there are a lot of templates, but I couldn't find a single one that I'd be willing to use for professional purposes out of the box. So if you buy this deal, expect that you'll have to put in some work to fine-tune the minor details in the bot builder. (It's a good thing they make that easy to do.)
3. As a webchat, it's a powerful option. Integration with Dialogflow is ready to go. From an FB standpoint, it's not quite as developed as the bigger guys like Mobile Monkey or Manychat, since they offer more in-platform functionality and are just a lot more mature overall.
4. No mobile app, or out of platform ways to use the human takeover option.
Despite all of that, I think this is worth taking a flyer on. If they continue to develop and improve Botstar, there's a chance this is an absolute steal, huge potential. The improvements they do need to make are small enough that they should be able to address them effectively (I hope), and if they do: LOOK OUT.
