It's a pity A Record Method no longer works
Yes, Brilliant Directories is a mature product, and Jason (Haloossim, co-founder) is very responsive e.g. on their Facebook group. But I have to agree with others that its design is noticeably dated, like 10 - 15 years at the least. On the good side, it's a good fit for the older folks who make up an increasingly larger portion of our population; but on the other hand, it certainly pushes away even the Gen X'ers. I take away at least half a taco because I then have to do a lot of work just to make it look relevant in 2025.
The other thing that take away the other half of the taco is their custom domain setup. It seems the A Record Method no longer works. It is now either the Nameservers Method or the CNAME Method. I prefer using the root/naked domain for my Brilliant Directories websites (yes, I've already got 2; still deciding on the 3rd), but then it means using their NS1/NS2.DIRECTORYSECURE.COM nameservers as well, which basically gives the whole Brilliant Directories story away. And the whole CNAME with www and/or Cloudflare setup doesn't really work that well. If only I could use the A Record Method ...
I still recommend Brilliant Directories, because I think even with these "cons", you are getting a well thought out and fully developed product, a hands-on founder and a vibrant community of users. 4 out of 5 tacos for sure.
