Hey, awesome Sumo-ling community!

I'm Arthur Emma, the CEO and co-founder of ByDesign.

I started ByDesign because I’ve struggled with ADHD most of my life—and I’ve always felt like I was just a few systems away from reaching my full potential. I tried every tool out there: TickTick, Notion, Todoist, Evernote… but none of them helped me actually feel in control or on track to live my best life.

Task management felt fragmented. Habit tracking didn’t stick. Goal planning was hard to visualize. So in 2021, I decided to build something better—with a close friend I met while we were both teaching high school history in Chelsea, MA through Teach For America.

We built the first version of ByDesign at Dartmouth College, then got into Techstars, raised venture capital, and have been building ByDesign ever since—now one of the fastest-growing productivity apps out there. Our mission is simple: help people plan their lives from the ground up, with tools that are intuitive, powerful, and grounded in real psychology.
