One Strength, One Disappointment and One Showstopper
CabinPanda has one strength, one disappointment and one showstopper.
The Strength: it works. After a flaky start, the code it produces is now solid and does what it should. Initially, the Regular, Pop Up and Conversational forms simply didn't work. Over the course of the first few days I used it, the bugs were ironed out and I was able to create and embed forms on my web site. The design tools are good and were sufficiently flexible to enable me to make the forms consistent with the appearance of the rest of the site.
The Disappointment: Support is truly dreadful. There are no instructions or support pages that explain how to use the program. When I queried this, I was eventually told that such pages would be released later that day. I am still waiting over a week later. I submitted more specific queries in respect of a non-responsive feature and waited... and waited...
The Showstopper: This is slightly complicated and took me a long time to work out. A key feature of the program is that when a form is completed, it sends a notification email to an address specified at design time. This email address is described as the 'Receiver'. I couldn't understand why this address was limited to my own email. Clicking on the 'Add Receiver' button didn't have any effect. After finally getting a response from Support, I discovered that only 'Team Members' can be 'Receivers' and that therefore the total number of 'Receivers' is limited to 3 on the Professional plan. You can create as many forms as you like but can only ever send the output to these three addresses. As it happens, I couldn't even make the 'Add Team Member' functionality work. A Use Case where you run more than a single web site or want to send the output of forms to different addresses (e.g. Sales, HR, Accounts, Membership) is impossible. To be fair, if you pay more you can, in theory, get to use 7 Receiver addresses. However, in practice I couldn't add an address other than the one with which I created the CabinPanda account.
I really wanted to like this product. The functionality is great, but the bugs, the lack of support and the self-inflicted limitations regarding 'Receivers' means it just isn't for me.
