Clay is good, but could be a lot better.

I’ll start by saying that the user experience, overall sentiment, and interface design are world class. The team at Clay definitely got that part right. However, there are also some things that could be improved.

- Reading the questions from other sumolings at even a glance shows a high demand for more flexibility around the 5,000 contact limit. Stacking is an obvious need. This is a clear drawback even after merging duplicate contacts, which is a perfect introduction to my next point.

- I went through the process of combining all of my duplicate contacts. The keyboard shortcuts are helpful, but these interactions don’t seem quite as snappy as they could be. It still took quite a long time. There should be a suggestion area where Clay would ask you to confirm suggested duplicates with a checkbox or something. Sorting and filtering are also limited. I can’t bulk select with a single click or sort things in ascending or descending order, for example. More granular filters and quicker bulk select options would make things more efficient.

- Another quirk I noticed is the inability to archive or exclude things from the home page activity feed. For example, the introduction to Clay video and suggestion to connect my accounts. I’m also seeing a lot of activity feed posts from certain contacts dating back as far as 2022. One contact in particular is taking up my entire feed. I also don't necessarily want to know when every contact updates their bio or URL on LinkedIn. I don’t want to archive these contacts, but I also really don't need to see the updates that every single contact posted about or the account changes they made. Even if we had to set the option to exclude people manually, it would help with cleaning up the home feed experience to be more focused and relevant.

- It's also not the most ideal workflow to click out to a separate tab/app, then find the contact to send an email/message, then make a note of this interaction. I feel like there’s a gap here, and that email and calendar management would be a game changing addition.

- Scheduling management with some automated workflows would also be useful. It would be helpful to share a meeting link with contacts, embed a scheduling widget on our website, or even have the option to semi-automate follow ups with an email or something.

- I get the limitations these days with Twitter, but we should be able to enable this option if we can provide our own Twitter API key. I'd also like to add Instagram, and Threads when the API becomes available.

- Lastly, utilizing webhooks in other integration platforms than Zapier, such as n8n, Integrately, and Albato is also a need. It may also be worth exploring native options to automate the creation of a new contact in Clay if a lead form is submitted on a website, etc.

I recommend giving Clay a shot, I genuinely believe it is an awesome platform with great potential. Once some of these items are addressed, Clay will be difficult to beat in this space.
