Good Enough
I finally got round to testing my cloudstick.io purchase. On my first attempt it failed to connect to the VPS. I then tried a different web host and successfully got it to connect and install.
Once I got it installed I first tried getting phpmyadmin running before migrating a site to it, phpmyadmin didnt work and I had to go to support for assistance.
When I finally got round the actual site migration, it at first wouldn't load and I had to go to support for assistance again.
Finally a recurring issue I had was sites/web apps that wouldnt delete even though the delete command was issued. Once again support had to assistance.
So why give it 4 stars? Support response time was less than 4 hours and I got multiple issues ironed out within the space of one day. This is really good.
Secondly the entire reason I bought this in the first place was the cost savings vs managed hosting. On the pure math, I am currently using a vps for 100 south african rand per month. If I used managed hosting in South Africa I'd be paying 1000 rand per month. The savings are huge.
An important point I do want to point out is that i'm running it on a VPS with 4 gigs of memory and it is currently using 2.92 out of 4 gigs for just the one website. I queried this with support who said this is temporary as it's updating it's antivirus database. If nothing changes in a week then i'll have to query the ram usage.
If you are looking for cost savings and can stomach bugs then buy it. Support is really good, just make sure to use the ticket system. If bugs are a deal breaker for you then avoid it.
