Great product to an extent
Clust does what it says on the tin. It's a great product though for a lot of us the e-signature feature was an important feature to have. Clust did have the API integrations to third-party solutions such as HelloSign and one other I can't remember what. For those integrations to work you'd have to fork out on the third-party API plans which had steep pricing.
In response, Clust added their own native e-signature on the roadmap, giving the impression on several occasions that it would be included in our previous AppSumo deal. Now they have returned with this native e-sign feature but they're asking us to pay $30/month for it, upsetting a lot of Sumo-lings in the process. Ordinarily, a lot of us would have refunded in a heartbeat but the refund window has passed.
In our view they asked us for funding, we funded them in good faith, and they used these funds to create a recurring e-sign product and came back to us asking to cough up. This isn't how you treat your investors. To add insult to injury, they removed third-party e-sign features which makes it very obvious what they're trying to do here - force you to use their e-sign software.
Perhaps they could have come up with a better pricing model, such as $10/month for 200 monthly contracts as not everyone needs unlimited contracts and be forced with paying $30/month. If they do this and revise the pricing model to be on par with alternative third-party e-sign apps then I will improve the review rating.
Additionally here are some glaring issues with the native e-sign feature during my testing:
1. When I add a text field to an uploaded contract it looks like you can not tell the customer what this field is for. For example, first name or last name. It just shows an empty field which isn't helpful. If they get the fields wrong what then? We'd have to do it all over again
2. Why can't we define which text field is meant to be written into by us or the customer? It looks like all text fields added are meant to be written into by the customers only. There are some fields we do need to fill out ourselves and uneditable by customers
3. Why are there no variable fields such as customer_first_name, customer_last_name, customer_company_name, customer_address and so on? This is a basic feature
4. In its current form it looks like we have to write the contract specifically for each person first (as in their first and last names, address etc), then upload it and then add the date and signature fields. This means we have to create a contract and upload them every time for every customer. This is time-consuming and not a streamlined workflow - variables are needed to create 1 contract template that has fields that get automatically populated according to the customer details
Overall the e-sign feature is extremely primitive and in no way justifies the $30/month they're asking for. Their attitude to previous Sumo-lings came as a surprise to many and leaves us scratching heads

May 9, 2024Hello ,
Thank you very much for your feedback.
Let me reply to your questions.
I guess you know the difference between eSignature and digital signature (with certificates). Most of companies provide eSignatures (as we do for free) and I don't know any solution out there providing free illimited digital signatures. (http://help.clustdoc.com/en/articles/3646192-clustsign-faq)
We removed other eSignature solutions because in order to use them, our clients would pay $300 monthly for Docusign API for instance. No one wanted to pay so much money. We don't force people to use Clust eSignature but at the same time, we cannot maintain integrations that are not used. That's why we remove it.
Regarding your issues :
1) SOLVED. You can now add a placeholder
2) ROADMAP
3 & 4) SOLVED. Merged tags are now available and you cans even use the data entered in forms (https://help.clustdoc.com/en/articles/3148189-adding-merge-tags-to-your-content)
I hope that the fact you'll appreciate the fact that we take into account your feedback.
Thank you again 🙂
PS :
We made a communication mistake on Esignature and we're sorry for that. Our main goal was not to earn money with eSignature. On the contrary, we want to provide an all-in-one solution for our clients and don't want them to pay for any specific feature. If we do it, it's because it costs us money.
