Value disproportionate to the cost
First, I'm a UX/interaction designer focusing on task-based applications. I feel that's important to note because several of the comments/questions are (unfairly, IMO) ripping into the design of Collaboard.
First, the not great:
– Some controls aren't obvious; it's easy to figure out how to do things, but there's some unnecessary busyness to some controls. I don't need to see all the options each time, just give me the basics and a way to get to the others if I want them.
– Similar to the above (to make adding items quicker), I'd like a way to set my default item styles (text size, default stickynote color, font) and then change styles on a per-item basis if needed
– I'd prefer to have better keyboard shortcuts – example: if I hold ALT+click-drag, that should pan the board all the time, as a default. It's irritating to have to select "Pan"; same for SHIFT+click-drag --- have that do an Area Select by default. Having some "quick add" shortcuts would be good too (i.e. CTRL+ALT+T to add a new Text item in the middle of visible canvas)
– The project dashboard needs some work for better organization (folders/tags) and size/spacing; I'm not sure if there's a difference between a "project" and a "board"; it'd be nice to have multiple boards per project (folders/organization would help here, too)
– No CNAME; I don't think this is a big deal, personally, but I do like having my own domain link. However, I use a lot of SaaS tools, and it's not a secret.
– No whitelabel; While the option to add my logo at the top would be nice, I care even less about full-whitelabel than CNAME. I'm not going to be reselling this. My clients don't care about the tool's logo, they care about my expertise and process. We use MS and Atlassian products with clients all the time. This isn't my personal SaaS product, and I don't need to act like it is.
The pretty amazing:
– Collaboard's current UI isn't awful at all, it's actually pretty good! From some comments you may get the impression it's barely usable, but that's FAR from the truth. Sure, there are things that need to improve (thus the offer on AppSumo), but Collaboard is more than usable now and it'll only get better. It's not quite to the Mural/Miro level, but those two won't ever be on AS.
– I can run remote workshops for a single, one-time price. This. Is. Fantastic. I've used Mural before, but the cost-to-usage over (for me, at least) time drove me to less ideal options. Collaboard gives me the unlimited projects I want, so I can keep important (or client) items archived
– For smaller business owners, one code is *plenty*; clients can come in as guests and boards can be password protected and require names (not a full sign-in but for identification)
– I can mindmap collaboratively. This alone is worth one code for me. I've struggled to find a decent collaborative mindmapping tool that I like. Collaboard fits the bill and then some.
– The iPad app to is on its way, hopefully with decent touch controls

May 9, 2024Hello devbydesing,
we are pleased with your comprehensive review. Thank you for the five tacos!
Please see here some comments from our side:
-There will be an update on the toolbar and the object menu in December to make things easier and reduce busyness.
-Regarding default text size, color etc. we are offering default settings for notes, text and connections. Please have a look here: https://help.collaboard.app/how-to-use-default-settings
-Keyboard shortcuts are something we have on the roadmap and will be released in the near future.
-Project dashboard optimizations are planned and we will introduce the possibility to tag projects. At the moment in Collaboard, a project = board. A structure to organize projects/boards in folders is something we have planned to do early next year.
-CNAME, Whitelabel: This is a feedback we got from many SumoLings. We will prepare a statement about this and get back to you with some information next week.
Thank you for highlighting the things you like. The iPad app is on its way and a first version will be published in the next days. Looking forward to getting your feedback then regarding the iPad version.
Kind regards,
Michael
