Q: Google Tag Manager implementation
Hello,
Im considering getting your tool, looks very promising! Just wanted to ask about google tag manager implementation, do you have detailed documentation about this?
What I'd like to do is set up standard or advanced consent modes and make all my tags fire on an event trigger such us consent_update (e.g. cookiepro sends it to the data layer). Do you send these events along category changes (e.g. if user disables only analytics or ads) so that I can configure my tags with the banner without custom JS (e.g. hubspot implementation is notoriously difficult to manage)? Thanks

Jul 1, 2025A: Hi simon943,
Thanks for reaching out, great question (and I hear you on HubSpot’s “fun” GTM setups...).
Short answer: Yes, CookiePal is designed to work smoothly with Google Tag Manager. We have detailed implementation guides covering both Standard and Advanced Consent Mode setups.
About the data layer events:
- CookiePal pushes consent updates to the data layer whenever a user changes categories (e.g. enables/disables Analytics, Ads, etc.).
- You can use our consent_update event or category-specific states in GTM triggers — no custom JS required.
- This setup is built specifically so you can control tag firing natively in GTM with Consent Mode integration.
We also support firing events on first load or on any change, so you can handle “strict mode” and more flexible setups alike.
The documents can be found all on our guides section on the website.
Best,
Lennard
