The tricky part is exactly what you ran into — if you already have something configured on the root (like a website), then it becomes a tradeoff.

That’s why a lot of users:
• use a subdomain (like go.yourdomain.com), or
• keep the root as-is and use a workaround like you did

So you didn’t do anything wrong — you actually picked the safest and most flexible route for now.
