This is essentially a direct competitor to clay.com and I think the market could certainly use another tool like that. Clay got a lot of things right but I think they've been resting on their laurels too much in the space. Other tools like Cargo have popped up to fill the gaps and with the advent of AI + no/low-code, all this data management for marketing has gotten a lot more interesting.

The UI/UX for this type of product is very difficult to get right. It can get overly complicated very quickly and it is common for technical founders to do so. I give the Databar team props for a clean and intuitive interface. That said, it does definitely feel like a beta product. There's a lot of base level functionality that still needs to be added (e.g. why can't I write a formula to quickly extract the LinkedIn handle from a URL, etc.) and some confusing UI flows that take a while to figure out what's going on. But, hey, that's why they're on AppSumo.

If you do any sort of serious marketing or lead management, you'll eventually need to use Clay or hack together your own with something Airtable, et al. Buying Databar is a bet on the team as much as anything. Based on my early read, I think within 1-2 years it'll be a serious contender to Clay and, at that point, this deal is an absolute steal. I may change my mind, but right now that's 5 stars for me.

Side note: For the low ratings from complaints around 'changing the deal' or 'not enough free credits', they are overblown or unfair. On the former, the packaging was a little confusing but I understood what they were trying to do and they responded professionally and quickly to address the issue. On the latter, this type of business cannot survive paying for your use of third party vendors.
