“10 Reasons Decktopus Is Not PowerPoint”

There is currently 3 pitch deck document sharing type LTD's that provide analytics.

The Good:
- Decktopus has the best design combinations with regards to font, color palette matching etc compared to others.

As a PowerPoint geek, I love this about Decktopus.

I love that it limits your character count within your headings, subheadings, and text.

As a military briefer, a rule of thumb is no more than 6 bullet points on a page and no more than 6 words across each bullet point.

There are a lot more slideology rules we have to keep things focused on a slide deck, but no tool on the market is there yet. But keeping the user focused is awesome.

The Bad:
- You have to modify the images prior to uploading them. So you can't add things like callouts, additional text on images, or any other modifications.

- There is no standard size listed to which you can take, enter those dimensions on something like Crello, Canva, Photoshop, etc to get your images within the frame you need them to maximize real-estate on the slide. This is horrible because your personalized images are a lot better than stock photos.

- Aligning the image feature is horrible. You can spend minutes just trying to align the photo where you need to maximize the frame Decktopus locks you into until you figure out it's impossible and leave it to the best of your ability.

- PowerPoint download feature will strip away the ability to edit the powerpoint deck. All your fonts, images etc are downloaded as one image.

- Any links you include in your brief are not live if you download your brief.

- Analytics is not intuitive and really doesn't tell you much. With today's capabilities, there's a lot more granular detail you can pull from integrated analytics for this software. If you look at time tracking software tools, these do a great job at tracking analytics.

The alternative to Decktopus that has better analytics is SIZLE...

- Screen/Mobile Responsiveness: I thought D was responsive because they mentioned something like this in a video with AppSumo, but it's not.

I originally thought "great!", it should be responsive just like a website and the maybe the split slides will stack right... nope. I sent a presentation out and I was told they could not read it on their phone so they were going to wait till they got to their desktop....slap on forehead moment.
Plus the recipient told me they couldn't download it.

- When I tried using my fingers to zoom in, the app would not comply most of the time. and Instead would flicker like it was going crazy then skip to the next slide, or start over.

- Onboarding others to access the document: I sent out a brief I created; one person felt like they couldn't access the presentation, another didn't either.. None accessed the brief so I uploaded it on SIZLE and it was accessed.

*Put instructions or an explainer on the receiving end on how to access the brief. Some investors are older and need hand-holding. KISS

Hello cientiros,

Thank you for review and giving us an opportunity to tell about the difference between Decktopus and other presentation/design tools.

First of all, Decktopus' promise is simple: You type your content, Decktopus converts your content into a good-looking presentation (or you can call it a document).

The number one priority and the most important duty of Decktopus are providing an online platform for users to create presentations in the fastest way possible. Unlike other presentation tools, Decktopus prefers not to include the time-consuming design tools inside the editor, because it slows down the process. Decktopus has lots of built-in templates & slide types (All templates are designed by professional designers). The only thing the user should do is selecting them and typing the content inside the layouts, the rest is handled by Decktopus.

As you said in the title, yes Decktopus is not a PowerPoint, yet it is not looking for being PowerPoint. PowerPoint is already there and there are tons of other PowerPoint-like tools out there, no need for another PowerPoint. Also, Decktopus is not an image editing tool, again, there are tons of alternatives as you named some of them.

Decktopus is a tool for people who want to create presentations (or documents) quickly. Our stock image, icon, quote, and GIF libraries let you finish the work quickly. However, if you want to spend some time on your images (which is fine), go to your favorite image tool, edit the image (or create it from scratch, it is all up to you), and then turn back & upload it to Decktopus. Again, the rest is handled by Decktopus.

Since Decktopus can be used to create proposals (it has a form & embed slides), we encourage our users to share the document with the online sharing link (custom domain connection is also possible) instead of offline exporting in order to keep the document interactive.

Right now our analytics dashboard shows the total number of views, distinct number of views for each slide, and the last open time. However, (our community members know it very well) we are truly open to any feedback and actually shape our tool in the light of the feedback of our users. Shortly, "the time spent on the slides", noted.

We intentionally could not include (although our backend is ready for this feature) a download button on the shared document, because most of our users did not want it. However, it can be optional, noted.

You can edit your documents on any device, desktop, tablet, or mobile without the need for an app. The fullscreen option is being considered, we'll release a new version soon that lets you fullscreen on your mobile phone.

The access problem seems weird because there are thousands of documents are shared every day and we have not received any problem with this. Do you still have the same problem? Please let me know.

After all, I would love to e-meet you on Zoom and try to figure out how Decktopus can help you...

Decktopus your day!

Best
