A 4+1 Taco Rating
I have started playing with Deskera and while it offers a lot, there is still a list of missing items and plenty of room for improvement. Since Canadian compliance is not yet available, my review is based off my limited poking around in the system, multiple webinars, Q&A’s, product roadmap, and most importantly the team behind Deskera. The product earns 4 tacos, and the team gets the extra taco for a 5 taco rating.
As a current user of WaveApps accounting, I was excited to see a proper accounting software on AppSumo. But Books is not all Deskera does, there is also a CRM, an HR (People) system, Online Store, and more. It is an ERP system, after all. What is lacking from the system right now is the missing integration between the different components/modules. For instance, there is an expense claim dashboard under People, but it is not linked to the Books. Or contacts listed in CRM are not linked to customers or vendors in Books. Overall, every module basically lives inside its own silo now, and the experience is not as unified or refined beyond the Books accounting. I think the CRM and People (and their respective sub-modules) have some work that needs to be done before I can start the switch over.
That is where the team behind the Deskera comes in. They have already fixed many bugs, added new features, rolled out modules, and shown previews of their upcoming modules. Shashank, Saurabh, David, and the rest of the team are passionate about their product and have a clear vision of the future, thanks to the ton of experience that the company has in this field. They continuously interact, answer questions, and provide support when necessary to the community. The one thing that stood out to me is how Shashank, Deskera’s CEO, asks questions on behalf of us in the webinars. Obviously, he knows most of the answers himself, but he wears our hats (or shoes?) and asks the team why? What? When? How? Their transparency is appreciated and applaudable, and for this all, they get an extra taco!
