Q: Hello, Isn't there a major legal issue with copying a website and reproducing it almost identically, even if the text is changed?

Or maybe I misunderstood the purpose of your tool?

Best regards,
Florence.

A: Hello Florence,

Here’s a clarification on how our tool operates:

• Public Code Accessibility: DivMagic accesses only publicly available code. Our tool does not access server-side code or decrypt any private or encrypted parts of a webpage. It operates within the legal boundaries of what is openly accessible and visible through a browser.

• Compliance and Browser Functionality: DivMagic was created to enhance the web development process by leveraging the inherent capabilities of web browsers, including the built-in feature that allows for copying code directly from websites. Copying elements from web pages is a feature integrated into all major browsers, such as Chrome and Firefox, through a built-in "Copy" button. You can see this yourself, if you go to Developer Console and click on any element on Chrome (or any other browser), there will be a button called "Copy". It will copy the website (or the element) using the publicly available code. This functionality reflects an industry standard and DivMagic enhances this existing feature by providing a more efficient workflow for developers and designers. We focus on reuse and education aspects without bypassing copyright protections of the original creators.

• Ethical Use and Responsibility: While DivMagic facilitates the copying and transformation of web elements, we advocate for its use as a source of inspiration rather than for direct replication. Users are encouraged to customize the elements to fit their own unique requirements and aesthetics, which promotes creativity and respects the original work of others. We urge all users to adhere to the terms of service of any website and consult legal advice as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable laws.

Our aim with DivMagic is to streamline this existing process for educational and development efficiency while adhering to standard legal practices related to web content.
