Q: Feature Request – Automatically Preserve Original Social Media Preview When Preview Fields Are Empty
Hi ElkQR Team,
When Advanced Settings → Social Media Preview is left empty, ElkQR currently shows a generic ElkQR image/title instead of preserving the original destination preview.
Could you add this behavior:
• If custom preview fields are filled → use them.
• If they are empty → fetch the destination URL's Open Graph metadata (og:title, og:description and og:image) and mirror it on the ElkQR short URL, rather than serving ElkQR's generic fallback metadata.
This would allow Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube links to keep their original preview automatically. MySocial.io already works this way, and it is very useful when managing many client links.
Is this already possible through an existing setting that I may have missed, or could you consider adding it to the roadmap?
Thank you.

Thanks for the detailed write-up.
To answer directly: no, ElkQR doesn't auto-fetch the destination's Open Graph metadata today. The Social Media Preview under Advanced Settings expects the title, description, and image to be filled in manually. When those fields are empty, the short URL falls back to the QR name and a generic description with no image — which is the behaviour you're seeing.
The manual fields work as-is if you fill them; there's no hidden setting that flips it to auto.

Thank you for clarifying the situation.
I’ve now submitted the feature as a request on the ElkQR roadmap.

Is this is technically feasible ? I would really appreciate seeing it on the ElkQR roadmap ? because manually recreating the original preview for every link is time-consuming.
Thanks again!
