also, and one other question is I have a CRM where I can basically do the same things as decribed here.. or at least I think but that is because they lag behind in support. I am wondering if this operates as standalone or do I need to buy something else?

However, you use it to create your own email delivery infrastructure, it doesn't come with a way to deliver email automatically by sending over our infrastructure like when you're a customer at an ESP.
In this case, you're the ESP.
Many ESPs actually just outsource their email delivery to SendGrid under the hood and provide their own email marketing software as a frontend for that, for instance, ConvertKit does this.
So you would connect Amazon SES, SparkPost, Mailgun, SendGrid, or something similar as your email delivery engine - or mix and match and load balance all of them in various ways as the delivery configuration is completely flexible, and then use the platform as a regular ESP just like AWeber, Mailerlite, Maropost but where you're in control.
We're not a CRM.
Ok, I bought it thinking I could send emails using this rather than use the others. Obviously, this is way out of my abilities to use this... I would need truck load of training...sorry seems like a refund will be needed.
