Speechless!
Just kidding. I just could not think of a catchy title like 10 Tacos out of 5 or A++ & Then Some!
The general theme is that I am super impressed with EWWW.
I have been using a different image optimization app for several years and have been happy with it. The thing is though, I would have to do all my image resizing and optimization off-site then upload the optimized images.
The app I was using is web-based and since I did not want to add another plugin, I was okay with that.
On average I would do 2 to 5 images per page or post and that might take around 10 to 20 minutes for the resizing and running through the app before uploading.
If I ran an eComm site that required a ton of images per product and had a lot of products you can multiply those times by a bunch.
Now that I have EWWW and with the help of their AWESOME support, all I have to do is take whatever images I have and upload them. I'll still resize them even though I don't have to but it is a habit that is hard to break.
EWWW does its magic and auto-optimizes those images, pulls them into its CDN and serves up the uber-high-quality WebP image format. This keeps the transparent background but instead of a 30 or 40 Kb optimized PNG image my site is displaying a 7 or 8 Kb WebP image that looks as good if not better than the original PNG.
I did have a little difficulty in the beginning with the page speed test but with a little back & forth with the EWWW support I am in the green all the way.
I just took this test:

So a huge thank you to EWWW and AppSumo for hosting this fantastic app.

May 9, 2024Hi Steve,
Thanks for sharing your review! I'm totally with you on the habits; I often resize my images manually even though I know EWWW IO would take care of it for me :)
But I'm thankful that I can let our software do the rest for me, supporting mobile and devices of various sizes, it's a weight off my mind, and we're glad to see the results on your site also. Happy Optimizing!
