Video Scoring Made Easy
I'll leave a review. This is an awesome tool and the price is fantastic. When they say "scoring" that is exactly what they mean. Usually when I'm using Artlist, Audiio, or the other music Appsumo deal right now Uppbeat, I find myself grabbing a track and then editing it to fit the needs of my video. Or the more likely scenario, editing my video to the timing of the audio track.
Filmstro is different. Their app lets me edit the track to the cut of the film. I have been messing with it this morning on a few projects just to see what it can do and you can color me impressed. I feel like I have the composer sitting next to me altering their mix to meet my edits. Truly phenomenal stuff.
I also love how once you have a track running, it can run essentially forever. I had the preview going and it just never ended. Was writing an email and realized that I had been listening to the same track running for almost 6 minutes. If you work with royalty free tracks you know that finding music that runs longer than 2.5 minutes is difficult to do! Since this is basically mixing it for the use case, all their tracks can run indefinitely depending on the need.
A few (minor) bumps I've run into:
1.) Previewing tracks in their app is painfully slow. My Internet isn't exactly lightning speed but it isn't dialup. I average about 40mbps download speed. When you want to preview a track, you basically download the entire high quality track FIRST. Thats a lot of data to pull down just to hear what it might sound like.
Also I'd say about 1/3rd of the downloads would just straight up fail. I guess they're timing out?
I would encourage them to build in some way for me to preview the tracks quickly like you can on their website. For now I'll find the track I want on their site and then pull it down in the app to use. An idea would be to download compressed MP3 versions of the tracks when you preview them and then download the high quality versions when they're added to a project. Alternatively, you could asynchronously download them kind of like how Premiere builds audio track previews in the background while you're editing the video.
2.) The library is still a little bit thin. I imagine if they continue adding tracks this will resolve with time. Now, the flip side of this is that almost every track I've listened to is fabulous. I dropped my subscription to Soundstripe a year or two ago because even though they had TONS of tracks, like 80% of them sucked. These guys appear to be the reverse of that. Their tracks rock, they just need to continue to add more haha.
They have a heavy presence of full orchestral style music. I love it!
So overall this is definitely a 5 taco deal. I'm in for tier 2 and very excited to help these guys grow. I'll be using them a lot I bet.
P.S. I haven't used the premiere pro plugin, but if it works like their app I imagine it'll be fantastic. I'll be giving it a try very soon.
