FlyWP, and waking up from the nightmare of WordPress management
I've been using DigitalOcean for 7 years, sticking with the same droplet and price, despite a new droplet with the same specs would be cheaper. I used ServerPilot for my droplets, at a free tier (grandfathered in years ago), managing dozens of WordPress sites. I've had my sites hacked several times. Migrating seemed daunting and expensive, as I would need several ServerPilot instances. Looking at free options, such as Virtualmin, seemed tedious and work-intensive. I had been procrastinating for over a year when I saw FlyWP at Appsumo.
After testing it, I am confident it will be worth the investment. It will help me save money and make my life easier.
With the caveat I have not thoroughly tested it, meaning I might have overlooked some settings or menus, there are some areas for improvement:
- Integration to purge Cloudflare cache directly from the FlyWP panel.
- Servers created with FlyWP under the same DigitalOcean project
- Enabling multiple profiles for Cloudflare APIs, to assign one for each site.
- FlyWP adds a DNS record in Cloudflare, but not for 'www'. Having DNS records for 'www' in Cloudflare and implementing automatic redirects would be good if it's an old domain with incoming www-prefixed links.
Overall, FlyWP has been a game-changer for me, helping me save money, work more effectively, and not spend time fixing hacked sites. With some tweaks and additions, it could become the ultimate solution for WordPress hosting.
