A Promising App, But Still a Way to Go
Formly has a lot great features, logical points and scoring is the reason i chose it and for that its great so far. But a lot of catching up to do compared to more polished platforms like Typeform. It’s functional but far from being enjoyable or easy to use in its current form. I'm hoping the issues I have below can be resolved to turn this into 5 tacos.
Pros:
>> Affordable: It’s the only budget-friendly option for creating point-based quizzes, which makes it a viable choice for those needing this specific feature.
>> Easy to set up and publish: Following Typeform's UX, creating forms is pretty straight forward
Cons and Areas for Improvement:
> Keyboard Navigation Issues: The 'Enter' key doesn’t work in Firefox to progress through the survey. This should be an easy fix but hasn’t been addressed yet.
> Desktop Formatting: The desktop version of the survey lacks proper formatting. Text spans across the screen, making it difficult to read, and the answer options are too wide, which detracts from the professionalism and readability of the survey.
> Custom Colors: While there’s an option to use custom colors, it relies on the system color picker (on macOS, for example). This tool doesn’t support hex codes (easily?) and is difficult to navigate in a browser. Additionally, it doesn't save custom color palettes, which makes branding tedious.
> Branding Limitations: There's not enough customization for incorporating a logo. The logo appears only at the top, in one size, and for some reason, it looks faded, which weakens brand presentation.
> Survey Navigation: The presence of the "OK" button after every question is frustrating. It would improve the user experience if respondents could automatically advance to the next question after making a selection, similar to how Typeform works.
> Lack of Analytics: The app doesn’t provide basic statistics like completion rates or time spent on each survey. These metrics are crucial for assessing survey performance.
> Results Screen: The results page is problematic — text is cut off, making it impossible to read which questions correspond to certain answers. This makes reviewing responses a headache.
>Inadequate Filtering: There's no ability to filter results based on specific questions, which is essential when using logic branches or segmenting respondents.
> Missing Insights: Unlike competitors, the app doesn’t offer a simple summary of responses, such as percentage breakdowns or other valuable insights. This is a missed opportunity for data analysis.
> Google Sheets Integration: I encountered issues when trying to connect and create a new Google Sheet for response collection. This integration could be smoother.
