I have searched high and low ... and tried out literally every other option on the market. Fortask completely nailed it! The interface is super clean. You customize it to only include the functions that you will actually be using, including how it's viewed in the platform. It allows for you to run your day-to-day business as well as projects. Most importantly for teams, there are channels and direct chat options (doesn't require to be within a project or channel). Mobile-friendly as well. I could literally go on all day ... I am so happy I finally found what I've been searching for.
