Q: Frontly vs. AppSheet: Handling Complex Calculations and Data Relationships

I've used Google AppSheet to build a powerful inventory app, and I've noticed a helpful rule of thumb: if complex calculations can be done in spreadsheets, they can almost always be replicated in AppSheet using its built-in functions, virtual columns, and expressions.

I'm curious how this translates to Frontly. How do formulas and calculated fields work there? Are there features similar to virtual columns? Would it be possible to build a complex inventory app in Frontly, and where exactly would the formulas and logic be set up?

A: Thanks for your interest, that's a great question!

Frontly's action and logic system can be configured manually or through the AI copilot. Given AI's ability to create complex logic and it's accuracy when mapping that logic into Frontly, a complex inventory management app should be relatively straightforward to build with the copilot.

I'd suggest that if you have an app already built that you're considering migrating to Frontly, tell the AI copilot the scope of your app with granular context about what you need. Then once your app has been built, check the actions to see if they are aligned with your expectations. If they are not, provide the copilot with the formula or more specific details of what you need individual actions to do and it can adjust accordingly.

Thanks for getting back to me! The AI copilot sounds like a great tool, but for now, I’m more interested in understanding how formulas and calculations work in Frontly compared to AppSheet—let’s just assume the copilot isn’t in the picture. Could Patrick weigh in on this?
