I was really excited to be able to review a tool like GlobalPatron, because I'm a pretty heavy user of form applications, including Microsoft Forms, Typeform and Google Forms. The features that GlobalPatron offers are unique and superextensive, so I was really looking forward to trying out this tool.
The pros I can list for this tool are:
- Incredibly extensive features that you won't find in any other form building tool
- The forms can be fully customized to look really pretty
The cons:
- The user interface is generally OK, but definitely not the most user-friendly. It's not always easy to understand how things work and the flow is not logical. For example, when you add a new question, the question gets added ON TOP of the previous question while you normally want to have it BELOW the previous question. So you literally need to build the form backwards to have the questions listed in the right order. You can swap the order of questions around by drag & drop but this doesn't work smoothly and is honestly very painful - the questions do NOT snap in place easily (and often they don't).
- The spacing of the different elements are not nicely done. If you add a label or text above an answer box, it literally gets stuck together, so you have to manually enter some spacing between the 2 elements. In order words, you need to be a designer to make sure the form will look good. In other tools like MS Forms, Google Sheets or Typeform, the layout design is made in a way that the form elements always look good so you only have to fill out the text and elements.
- There's no way to delete a form so it easily gets cluttered on your dashboard with draft forms (as far as I could find - or it's super hidden somewhere where it's not obvious at all)
- It's not clear of some of the boxes what they do and what the differences are (e.g. Label Text VS Section). Generally, not all the elements are easy to understand or straight forward.
I would say that Global Patron has a HUGE potential because of its crazy suite of unique features and I would've LOVED for it to work. However, there are just too many user interface and usability problems that prevent me from using it.
I wanted to migrate away from Typeform because it's so expensive. I was able to replicate one of my Typeform forms in MS Forms within 5-10 minutes. I wasn't able to replicate that same form in Global Patron (and have it look at least as good as in MS Forms) even after trying for 40-50 minutes, because of the usability issues I mentioned above. I finally gave up on it. Such a pity.
