A: Hi Charles,

Thank you for your question.

You can use Goose VPN with a router, but only on specific models and with manual setup. We don’t currently offer automatic, one-click router installation guides for every brand, which is why you may not see general instructions on our site.

We officially support manual VPN configuration on a number of routers, including many ASUS, MikroTik, Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Tomato, and DD-WRT routers. Examples include ASUS RT-AC78U, Linksys Archer C3150/C9, Mikrotik hAP models, and others listed in our support article: https://support.goosevpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/4629229151378-Which-routers-do-you-support

For supported routers, you can follow our manual setup guides (e.g., OpenVPN on DD-WRT or specific instructions for ASUS/Netgear/D-Link) found in the support center.

Please note that many ISP-provided gateway/combined modem-router devices (such as the default Cox unit) do not support VPN client configuration. In those cases, you would need a router that supports VPN clients (or third-party firmware like DD-WRT/OpenVPN) connected behind your Cox gateway. This setup is not directly supported by Goose VPN, and steps vary by hardware.

If you let us know your exact router model, we can point you to the correct setup instructions.

Kind regards,
Support
