Great for Prototyping - but (as of now) near-impossible to turn into Fully Functioning APP...
GRETA Review (July 2025):
I feel so bad to give Greta only 3 stars, as initially I was thrilled with the app... Here are my observations, based on one full week of intensive Greta use.
The GOOD:
** Greta is great at fast prototyping (given the right, detailed instructions). It greatly accelerates new drafts and UI concepts.
** Greta's conversation thread is generally detailed and clear, keeping track of all the iterations (IF it does them; see below).
** Greta is good at understanding requests.
The BAD (as it is now - hopefully will improve soon!):
** Too often it says that it has fixed something, and then didn't...
** Despite telling Greta explicitly to ONLY make a certain well-defined change, and to leave everything else (all other code and design) EXACTLY as is -- it regularly does its own thing, and changes things (without me wanting these changed).
** In doing so, it also regularly BREAKS something that WAS working well before... Including occasional things that took lots of work and many credits to change. Finally got it working, and then it breaks it - all by itself - again later. Too many regression bugs.
** Greta's integration with SupaBase is poor. Very poor data persistence and failing backend integrations... almost all the time...
** User sign-up, sign-in, session handling, and authentication are failing -- almost impossible to get to work... The retrieval logic also does not seem to work.
** Greta sometime changes the UI or app options (like in drop-downs) WITHOUT my requests.
So, in summary: I initially LOVED Greta and was really hopeful that I could build proper apps with it, but as it stands now, it does an amazingly powerful job at initial prototyping, but fails in getting from prototype to fully functioning app. Prototyping can be done in less than an hour. I then spent DAYS to try to bring it to production stage -- and kept failing all the time, and was left frustrated and rather disillusioned...
IF these problems of "promised-fix > still broken > new bug” are resolved (and I am sure that is what the team is trying to do), Greta COULD be incredibly amazing... Fingers crossed!
Still: Keep up the GOOD WORK, Shubham and Team!
Cheers,
Meindert
