The rebrand from Greta to Greta LTD changed everything.
I am incredibly disappointed by how this team has handled their Lifetime Deal customers. Within less than a year of launching, they have effectively siloed LTD users by creating a separate product, Greta.sh, while attempting to rebrand the original AppSumo listing as a distinct entity. They seem to be in total denial, acting as though creating a "new" product justifies abandoning the original backers rather than acknowledging this as a classic bait-and-switch.
Their logic—that it is acceptable to "pump and dump" a product as long as it isn't ghosted overnight—is fundamentally flawed and does a massive disservice to the community. They are attempting to frame this business move as a simple rebranding for the monthly subscriber, but the reality is that they have alienated the very supporters who helped the launch.
I urge the team to consider the long-term damage this is doing to their reputation. AppSumo is a powerful platform with lasting SEO, and these reviews will forever be associated with their brand. While they could still choose to honor their original commitment and reconcile with the LTD base, the current path they are on is unsustainable. I cannot recommend supporting a company that chooses to treat its early adopters this way. I hope they realize that transparency is the only way to salvage their image, but as it stands, this has been my most frustrating experience on the platform to date.
On the flip side, I do like the team as individuals. I don't feel they planned to do this all along. They seem like genuinely decent people who have decided to take a path common for startups that don't have a proven product or the budget to save a dying one. I have zero confidence that the greta name will survive in the Western market. It's done. Those of use who have seen many AI companies fly through appsmo within the last 5 years know the pattern. Once a choice like this is made, you've only slowed the bleeding and those LTD users who are left finish the job rather through monitoring the brand (which is so easy to do in the AI space) and trolling it or taking legal action once the right angle is figured out. Best of luck to them navigating this.
