Q: Hi, I am a little bit confused by reading the answers to the earlier questions.
I hope you can clarify these:
In one of the responses you mention:
We support advanced encryption protocols such as OpenVPN to provide an extra layer of security for our users.
Then in another response you say:
We currently use the Wireguard protocol within our app and on our servers. We do not support the use of OpenVPN, so unfortunately this means that it is not possible to configure your router with an OpenVPN configuration.
Then you say:
our VPN solution provides end-to-end encryption to protect user data.
Then you say:
we scan all data going through the VPN tunnel and give alerts of all possible cyber threats.
How are you scan the files, if everything is end-to-end encrypted? can you please explain how this works?
Last question, can you actually tell how your product works? So should it be installed on a pc/mac as a host and then from other pcs/macs connect to that host? how does this work?
Thanks in advance,
Thank you for contacting us. Indeed, I also see that it says we use OpenVPN. That is not correct, Guardey only uses Wireguard as protocol. I will see if I can rectify the answer of my colleague.
You're right that if your traffic is encrypted (like when you use https) we don't scan the actual contents of the traffic. This means that we do all analysis based on other heuristics. These include source/destination ip (and ASN/Country/etc), source and destination ports, the amount of traffic, etc. Based on these heuristics we can make pretty good estimates on what kind of traffic it's about, and if this should be considered a threat - or not.
Guardey is a Cyber Security and a Cyber awareness program developed for small en medium sized businesses. You can find an explanatory slideshow about Guardey and what is does on the following page: https://www.guardey.com/. Here you can also get a feeling about how it looks and operates.
If you decide to use our product, we would appreciate it if you could leave a review.
Kind regards,
Guido.
