Q: Dear Sumo-lings, A lot of you have already bought Publitio deal already.
And hence the legit question: “Is buying Gumlet really worth it?”
So here is an honest and comprehensive “Gumlet Vs Publitio” comparison. We hope it helps you make a decision.
TL;DR: If you need optimization and reliability choose Gumlet. If you need videos choose Publitio.
** Advantages of Gumlet **
* CDN Delivery *
As you already know, we use AWS CloudFront for delivery. Which is much more robust and higher performance. Publitio does not use a CDN network. And their delivery system is *At least* twice as slow as per their own estimates. Read more: https://publit.io/community/blog/cdn-by-default-publitio-infrastructure-explained
* Best image optimization *
Gumlet *Automatically* does a ton of things under the hood to ensure best performance. Like adaptive image delivery as per save-data header and connection type. 3g, 4g, WiFi connections. Also compression and conversion to the best format on the server side for each device type.
* Amazing Support *
We want to do one thing really well: “Optimise your images”. It helps us focus and provide everyone amazing support to ensure our clients achieve that. We are releasing new updates very quickly as per user feedback to ensure everyone has the optimal performance.
* No vendor lock-in *
Franckly, keeping your files in your own storage (Amazon S3, Wasabi etc.) is always preferable. It’s not costly and you retain full control over your original files.
* 99.9% uptime SLA *
None offered by Publitio.
* Scale friendly pricing *
In Spite having a better CDN, Gumlet per GB cost is 10 cents per GB. Even with their Pro plan Publitio bandwidth costs about 15 cents per GB.
They also offer storage. But that’s rarely a limiting factor.
* Comprehensive image transformations *
Huge number of image operations supported including watermarking compared to only 5 operations on Publitio.
** Limitations of Gumlet **
* No video delivery *
We have plans for this but we can’t commit on timelines.
* No audio management *
We have no plans for this.
* No offload plugin *
However, third party plugin like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/amazon-s3-and-cloudfront/ can be used to offload images to amazon S3 and then Gumlet can be used to serve images.
* No CNAME *
Their deal offered CNAME as they have their own infrastructure. We can’t because we use AWS Cloudfront to deliver better performance.
However, we have resolved SEO related issues by updating canonical “Link” header and there is an option to purchase CNAME for extra cost if you really need it.
I hope this helps you make a better decision.

I raised a support ticket last week and still no one has responded. Need help with why images are not being served in their correct size and CDN not being recognised. Add to this my page speed has increased substantially since adding Gumlet. This is in my production environment so needs attention ASAP
