It is unfortunate that you had to experience this.
However, the load time is not increasing because of Gumlet.

Here is the situation:
You have a lazy loading script active on the website. Mostly it is part of your theme.
It is loading unoptimised images first.
Then Gumlet is loading optimised version of those images again.

Thus all of your images are being loaded twice after Gumlet installation. That's why the reports have gone worse. Please disable the other lazy loading script on your website and you would see instant improvement in score.

You are correct in expecting the Gumlet would optimise your site. It is just that configuration is not done correctly as of now. We are working on improving our documentation and onboarding to ensure users are educated about such evantuality.

Please disable all other image related scripts lazy load, optimisation or caching for Gumlet to work perfectly.
