I’ve been using HappyScribe absolutely every day for over a year now and I must have subtitled dozens and dozens of hours of videos with this tool. In all, I have stacked 15 codes, which is the equivalent of 30 hours of automatic subtitling every month (I’ll not count the extra purchases on the side). I’ve tested HappyScribe in several languages, with long and short videos, with professional subtitling or not... So, I think I have enough experience to share with you my complete and honest opinion about the platform after this intensive use. Let's go!

Pros

👍 Relatively accurate French transcription (60-70% I would say on average) and fast which saves considerable time compared to other tools on the market
👍 Very good management of punctuation and timing
👍 The tool underlines the words on which it has a doubt
👍 Possibility to classify your videos in files (but no tags unfortunately)
👍 Fast upload from his device or from many platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Dropbox...)
👍 No limits or storage fees
👍 Intuitive and well organized subtitle editor
👍 Free, accurate and unlimited translation
👍 Speed control (and it's super useful, believe me)
👍 Multiple output formats (SRT, VTT, TXT, XML, CSV...)
👍 Ability to share the video and its editing
👍 Ability to import your own subtitles at no cost
👍 Unlimited custom vocabulary addition (even if the tool never uses it???)

Cons

👎 Very limited customization of subtitles (font, animation, highlighting of the word said, letter thickness, spacing, positioning...)
👎 Professional subtitling expensive compared to the competition and of random quality
👎 No management of multi-language videos (one part in French and the other in English for example)
👎 The translation systematically generates duplicates (e.g.: "my son my son is young and and strong")
👎 Very bad management of several speakers (to differentiate them in the tool as well as on the screen) - at least if it exists I still haven't seen where it was
👎 Quality of the video decreased when you burn the subtitles
👎 Very little progress on the roadmap (the updates have nothing to do with what is announced)
👎 Only 2h per code, it's not much compared to what is done on the market
👎 No application for Windows or MAC

Conclusion

HappyScribe is a very good tool but with a lot of unused potential. In fact, free or semi-paid platforms like Kapwing sometimes do better without any extra effort (especially in the visual customization of subtitles). With the release of subtitling by Adobe Premiere Pro, staying with HappyScribe is a question but I trust André and his team to keep improving the tool to make it a real gamechanger.
Another frustration is that the HappyScribe team seems to be deaf to the feedback of its users because for several months the community has been asking for improvements such as the possibility to highlight each word when it is pronounced by a speaker but no answer is given on this subject...
