$57 and 6.8M input tokens saved, and more Claude Code before I hit my limits
I use Claude Code for client websites, SEO pipelines and my own tooling, and usage limits were the thing slowing me down. Headroom runs locally as a proxy and trims what gets sent to the model. After one full day of work (1 October 2026) the dashboard shows $57 saved and 6.8M input tokens saved, about a 20% cut on input. The money is nice. The bigger win for me is getting more hours of Claude Code before I hit my max 5x wall.
Addons I have switched on so far: Ponytail (v4.10.0), Serena (v1.7.0), Codebase Memory (v0.10.8), Context7 (v4.0.6), MarkItDown (v0.1.7) and RTK (v0.48.0). RTK alone shows about 54.9K tokens saved by rewriting bash commands. The addon panel is the part I like most. Each addon says what it does, which agents it supports and what the trade-off is (Serena's card tells you it adds its tool definitions to every request). Install, enable, update and uninstall are one click each, so I can try a tool and drop it again without editing config files by hand.
Heads-up for new users: the core proxy saves on input. Output savings stayed at 0% for me, so if output is what you want to cut, you need an addon that changes how the agent replies.
One request for the team: please add Chisle as an addon. I've been using it as an alternative to Ponytail. It keeps replies short and code minimal at the same time, so it would cover output tokens as well as code. Before writing anything it works down a ladder (does this need to exist, is it already in the codebase, does the standard library or platform do it) and only then writes the minimum. It also never cuts input validation, error handling, security or accessibility. I'd love to manage it from the same panel as the rest.

Update 11 Oct. 2026 - I just upgraded to the highest Tier. It is earning its money back, fast. At least at my pace and upgraded because I went Max 20x at Claude. Since I have many projects at the moment the 20x will run out quickly, Headroom is the safety net here, getting the most out of Claude without losing quality. One of the best buys here on AppSumo since Ai went commercial for everyone!!

On output savings showing 0%: Headroom's own output shaper is switched on by default, but the app only show a number once there's enough data behind it to be honest about it, and on a fresh install that can take a few days.
Unfortunately Ponytail's savings won't show up in that figure either, because it doesn't provide data on its potential output savings. So a 0% on day one means "not measured yet", not necessarily "nothing saved". Curious if this number goes up for you in a couple of days.
