Q: Is Heartbeat simply a way to communicate with our community, or is it a place where we can also share structured content?

I'd like to know if we could use Heartbeat to store our paid content, or if we have to upload our content somewhere else and just use Heartbeat to communicate with our community.

For example...
Can we post course content in there, such as videos?
Can we post pictures as content for paid supporters?
Can we post tutorials?
Is there a way to keep content organized, and aesthetically pleasing?
Is it possible to include a comment section under specific content?

Thank you!

A: >> Is Heartbeat simply a way to communicate with our community, or is it a place where we can also share structured content?

Both — we allow you to host community conversations (similar to Facebook or Slack), host content (similar to Notion, Google Drive, or Wordpress) and host events (similar to Eventbrite or Meetup).

Yes — all the examples you listed are possible & pretty easy to setup. Here's a quick video walkthrough of Heartbeat payments and how it works:

You can host courses, but we recommend hosting videos on 3rd party sites & embedding them in using our powerful HTML embeds. We have a limit of 10mb on upload for now (this is temporary while we improve compression-on-upload & video streaming tech).

>> Can we post tutorials?

Yes — easiest way to do this is via Heartbeat courses. Video walkthrough here:

>>Is it possible to include a comment section under specific content?

Docs already have a comments section beneath them.

Thank you for letting me know!

I'm glad that Heartbeat is both a way of building a community and storing paid content.

I'd like to learn more about it. Do you have any videos where you go over the different features? Is there a page where we can see the Roadmap for Heartbeat?

Also, the 10 MB file limit is per upload or for multiple uploads within the group?

What 3rd party sites do you recommend for hosting the videos? YouTube can host unlisted videos, but then again, anyone with the link can view those videos.

Regarding the comment section, I was referring to a comment section similar to those of social media platforms like YouTube. These are comment sections where people can share their thoughts and opinions on a piece of content, comment on other people's comments, and also rate other people's comments by using the thumbs up & thumbs down options. These types of comment sections are great for community engagement, even though they do require a bit of moderation.

Thank you

Best place to start is here: https://guide.heartbeat.chat/full-walkthrough

And yes, we have our public roadmap available here: https://feedback.heartbeat.chat/

Per upload

Vimeo & Wistia are popular. We've also seen several folks use Adilo, Vadoo, Bunny.net, Wave, and other video hosting platforms. All comes down to personal preference really!

Yeah, while we don't have a Youtube-style upvote/downvote comment section, our comments are more similar to Facebook post comments. Members can comment, sub-comment, @mention each other, and react to other comments. These comment sections exist on both Heartbeat Threads and Documents.
