Q: How to Populate a New Event with Demo Content?
Is there a way to populate a newly created event with the same demo content that appears in the default first event?
Support suggested duplicating the original event, which does carry over the demo content — but it also inherits the event type and configuration. For example, my first event is a one-off workshop, so duplicating it just creates another one-off workshop, including its naming structure and settings.
What I’m looking for is a way to create a new event of a different type, while still including the demo content to speed up setup.
Thanks heaps

Jul 2, 2025A: Hey @esty,
If I'm understanding your scenario correctly, this should just be a case of creating a new event from scratch. When you do that, demo data is added automatically. From there, you can start editing the event.
The only reason you would clone an event is if you want to retain any of the settings or data from the event you're cloning. If you don't need any of that and all you want is the demo data, then simply creating a brand new event is all that's needed here.
I hope that helps, but just reach out to our support team if you need us to look at your account at all.
Hi Ben, thanks for the prompt response. That’s correct, cloning doesn’t achieve the desired result. Unfortunately, your support team informed me that the demo content is only triggered for the first event, hence their cloning advice. I’ve created multiple events, and so far, they are correct: I haven’t been prompted with demo content again after the first one.
Ha, that is quite funny. There's an example of me being less informed than my support team. It was bound to happen at some point :)
If you really want to have the demo content generated for an event, just reach out to our support team and mention that you've spoken to me. We can manually generate the demo content for you. However, all that's going to do is create some talks and speakers, which you'll ultimately need to replace anyway.
I'm curious though: Is there anything in particular about the demo content that you find really useful? Or is it simply the fact that you just need to replace the names rather than having to create a new talk, even though you'd still have to enter those same fields again?
Do you have a Calendly link? I’m happy to walk you through my use case in more detail. However, due to the confidential nature of the content, I’d prefer to share it in a face-to-face conversation rather than over AppSumo.
We do a live office hours every Tuesday if you're able to pop along for that. That's typically the best way to get a bit of face time. You can see more over at https://officehours.heysummit.com
It’s 1:30 AM my time 😅
Essentially, we were running a virtual event on a global scale but were never able to scale or monetize it. HeySummit will allow us to finally do that. But we need to simulate the setup somehow so we can identify any issues and fine tune it collaboratively with our team and partners before launching. We’re currently exploring different types of events for this purpose.
Ah gotcha.
I would probably recommend creating one demo event that you can use for that purpose. Then, whenever you need to test it with partners or team members, you have just one demo event to work with. If, when creating it, the demo content isn't generated, just reach out to our support team, referencing this conversation, and we can manually create those demo records for you.
Thanks, Ben. I’m a bit tied up at the moment, but I’ll definitely take your advice and reach out to the support team when I’m ready. I’ll be sure to mention that I’ve spoken with you so they can manually generate the demo content as needed.
Sounds good :)
